Our story

The Oxford City Living Wage Campaign was founded in September 2017, to support Oxford City Council in promoting the Oxford Living Wage.

In 2008, a motion was passed in Oxford City Council by Labour Cllr Dr Joe McManners, which called on the Council to establish its own Living Wage, due to the cost of living in the city.

The City Council pays its own workers the Oxford Living Wage, and calls on all employers in Oxford to so. It has a Living Wage Champion, currently Cllr Martyn Rush, and promoting the Oxford Living Wage is a keystone policy of the Council.

The Campaign was formed to bring unions, faith groups, activists, citizens, organisers and workers together to help the Council’s work. It will take a movement to turn Oxford into a socially just place, into a Living Wage city.
